An Open Book, An Open Life

We began this teaching with two people standing at the same closed door for different reasons: the newborn believer afraid to open a Bible they did not yet know how to read, and the seasoned believer who once knew that Bible well but had let the cares of life quietly close the cover. Six chapters later, we hope both of you are standing somewhere different — not experts, necessarily, but no longer standing outside the door.

Chapter One named the fear that keeps so many from starting at all, and reminded us that timidity was never given to us by God. Chapter Two made room for grief and return, without shame, for anyone who has drifted. Chapter Three introduced the Thompson Chain Reference Bible as a tool built specifically to remove the excuse of not knowing where to start. Chapter Four walked through the actual mechanics of following a chain reference, verse by linked verse. Chapter Five addressed the unglamorous but essential work of building a rhythm that survives ordinary, tired days. And Chapter Six brought us back to the only reason any of this matters: not information, but intimacy with the God who wrote every page.

A well-worn Bible is not evidence of a scholar. It is evidence of a relationship.

Studying Scripture is not a project with a finish line. Every chapter in this teaching describes an ongoing practice, not a task to complete once and move past. But a study rhythm built this way — honest about fear, gentle about drift, equipped with a real tool, grounded in a real method, sustained by a real rhythm, and aimed always at real intimacy — becomes something durable. It stops depending on a burst of motivation and starts simply becoming how you live.

We began by naming a door that felt locked. We hope you close this teaching having discovered that the door was never locked at all — only unfamiliar. May the years

ahead of you be marked by an open Book, and by an ever-deepening knowledge of the God who has been waiting, patiently and lovingly, on every page.
