Walking in the Character of Christ
A Zoom teaching series with Bishop Jerome Jones. Walk in His character, and God releases His power.
Purpose & Objective
To help believers understand how to walk in the character of Jesus Christ.
To know and understand what the life of a son of God should look like as a new creation.
What should my life look like as a born-again child of God?
As a son of God, my life should reflect the conduct, attitude, heart, and mind of Christ.

Lesson Overview
Many of us were taught the dos and don’ts of the faith but were never taught how to discern God’s character or follow Him according to His Word. Think of a child in a natural family. Parents expect that child’s behavior and attitudes to reflect their own, and God holds the same expectation of those He calls His children.
There is a clear distinction between being a servant of sin and a son of righteousness. Yet there are times when sons of God fail to demonstrate the character of Christ. This happens when a believer fails to embrace the pre-ordained plan God has established for his or her life.
Key Scriptures
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 · KJV
We can perform acts that appear to reflect Christ and still choose to do things in direct conflict with His character, as if we had never been saved.
“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
1 John 2:6 · KJV
My profession of Christ should reflect my walk in Him. My walk is the reflection of my fellowship with Him.
“Seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”
Colossians 3:9–10 · KJV
This passage confirms that when we came to Christ, we put off the old man: his attitudes, his ways, his ungodly relationships, and more. The bondage and captivity were stripped from us.
Key Points
1. Others should see Christ in us. The people we encounter should see Christ in our attitudes, our communication, and our actions toward others.
2. We must be the Word we teach. Leaders teach by pointing people to Scripture, but it is equally important that we pattern our lives after Christ. We must be the Word that we teach and minister. Jesus is our example, and He never fails.
3. The old nature cannot walk like Christ. We cannot and will not walk like Him in our old nature. The new nature is found only in Christ Jesus. Nothing in us that existed before Christ remains after Christ.
4. We must embrace our new creation. The only thing that would cause us to revert to our former selves is yielding to the old creature we were delivered from. Once we are saved, we have everything we need to please God.
5. The walk requires travail, but God equips us. This walk will involve labor and suffering for His name’s sake, yet God equips us in the midst of it all.
Once we are saved, we have everything we need to please God. The call is to stop yielding to who we were and to walk in who we are in Christ: a new creation, equipped by God for the journey.
