SESSION 6: RIGHTEOUS RESTRAINT — POWER UNDER CONTROL

Core Scripture: 1 Peter 2:23 & Proverbs 16:32

1. The Awakening Catalyst

Most of us don’t throw obvious tantrums anymore. We’ve simply upgraded to sanctified forms of retaliation: strategic silence, withheld forgiveness dressed up as “processing.” The blind spot is that our tone, timing, and silence still function as weapons.

Soul-Searching Questions

Question 1
When you were last genuinely wronged, what was your actual first internal response before you filtered it into something presentable?

Question 2
Do you use silence, distance, or withdrawal as punishment toward people who’ve hurt you, while calling it “boundaries”?

Question 3
Who have you never actually released the need to be vindicated against?

2. The Divine Perspective & Biblical Examples

1 Peter 2:23 (KJV)
"Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously."

“Committed” is imperfect tense in the Greek — Jesus kept releasing His case to the Father, moment by moment, through the entire ordeal.

Proverbs 16:32 (KJV)
"He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city."

Example 1 — Jesus Christ: Before Pilate and the Sanhedrin, He “answered him to never a word” — deliberately withholding power fully possessed.

Example 2 — Moses at the Rock (Numbers 20:7-12): After decades of patience, he finally struck the rock in anger — barred from entering the Promised Land as a result.

The 24-Hour Release

Identify one current situation where you are practicing restrained retaliation. Before 24 hours pass after your next interaction with that person, take one deliberate action that actively blesses them — even though the offense hasn’t been resolved.
