SESSION 1: THE BLUEPRINT — BECOMING A NEW CREATION

Core Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17 & Colossians 3:9-10

1. The Awakening Catalyst

We live in an age fluent in the language of personality. We can recite our Enneagram number, our attachment style, our zodiac sign, our love language, faster than we can recite a verse of Scripture — and we use all of it for the same quiet purpose: to explain, and thereby excuse, the parts of us that have never actually changed. Here is the blind spot: you cannot renovate what God has already declared dead and buried. The old self is an evicted resident with no legal claim to the property.

Soul-Searching Questions

Question 1
When you describe yourself to others, do you introduce your old nature’s habits as “just who I am” — as if they were permanent, or as territory Christ has already reclaimed?

Question 2
Is there an area where you’ve stopped fighting for change because you’ve decided “that’s just my personality”?

Question 3
If someone had never met your “old self,” would they see any evidence of it still directing your reactions today?

2. The Divine Perspective & Biblical Examples

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

The Greek phrase is kaine ktisis — not a renovation of existing material, but a fresh act of creation.

Colossians 3:9-10 (KJV)
"Seeing that ye have put off the old man… and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge."

Example 1 — Jesus Christ: In the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), every temptation satan brought was aimed at Jesus’ identity. Jesus rested entirely on what the Father had already spoken over Him.

Example 2 — Gideon (Judges 6): God’s messenger greets Gideon while he is still hiding in fear: “The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” The declaration precedes the feeling, every time.

The Mirror Assessment

Question 1
What “old man” labels do you still introduce yourself with — moods, wounds, habitual sins?

Whose voice originally gave you your most negative self-identity — and have you ever renounced that word?
My Reflection: ______________________________

Question 3
Where do you unconsciously sabotage growth because change would mean grieving a familiar identity?

Question 4
If God renamed you today the way He renamed Gideon, what would He call you?

The Renaming Declaration

Write three “old man” labels you have been carrying. Physically cross each one out with a pen, and beside each, write the specific scriptural truth God speaks over that identity. Post this somewhere private you will see daily. Then choose one specific interaction this week where the old label would normally drive your reaction, and deliberately respond from the new identity instead.
